Vučić wins parliamentary elections in Serbia
After almost two thirds of the votes were counted, President Aleksandar Vučić’s Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) won almost 47 percent of the votes. If it stays that way, it would single-handedly have an absolute majority of 129 seats in the 250-seat People’s Assembly.
President Aleksandar Vučić’s party won the parliamentary election in Serbia on Sunday, according to election researchers. After counting 65 percent of the votes cast, the Belgrade institutes Cesid and Ipsos saw the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) as the clear strongest force with 47 percent of the votes.
Compared to the previous election 17 months ago, the SNS gained three percentage points. If it stays that way, it would single-handedly have an absolute majority of 129 seats in the 250-seat People’s Assembly. The liberal opposition, which ran together as the “Serbia Against Violence” electoral alliance, received 23 percent of the vote and can count on 63 seats.
On Sunday, just over 6.5 million Serbs were called to vote. According to the electoral commission, voter turnout at 4 p.m. was 42 percent, the same as in the 2022 election.
